A little known fact: In 1991, under the leadership of Bill Schmitt, members of the Moccasin Flying Club, which included Morty Lloyd, Mark Teter, Jerry Farinash, Robert Rymer and Don Allen came up with the idea of putting on an air show in Chattanooga. After months of discussion, they formed a partnership with TC Thompson Children’s Hospital with the purpose of putting on a quality air show in Chattanooga that would be exciting for public viewing, while promoting general aviation and, more importantly, the proceeds would go to TC Thompson Children’s Hospital. The result, Air Show Chattanooga was born. The first show was in 1992, followed by 1994, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002, and 2005. Over the years, Air Show Chattanooga has been viewed by hundreds of thousands of people, and has brought in quality acts, including the Navy Blue Angels and the Air Force Thunderbirds. The Moccasin Flying Club is proud of this accomplishment, in particular of what it has brought to this community, and the financial assistance given to TC Thompson Children’s Hospital.
